WHO

The World Knowledge Olympiad is a test of general knowledge that has run every year for almost 30 years with learners from Grade 6 to Grade 12 across the country taking part. For the first time in 2020, we have taken the Olympiad online with a trial that took place in August.  We are now ready for the official Olympiad in October.

This is a fantastic opportunity for schools and learners to pit themselves against the rest of the country in an enormous battle of the brains. This year, only grade 8-12 will be able to participate, the Olympiad for primary school learners (gr 6-7) will unfortunately not take place this year.

WHY

The most important reason of all is that all the learners will have fun! Learners can enter themselves, and teachers can enter individual learners or entire classes. There are prizes for the top three in each grade! Learners have the opportunity to develop 21st-century skills like self-learning, curiosity and gain global awareness. All participants will receive a personalised certificate of participation.

As a nationally recognised Olympiad, this is a great addition to a personal CV for scholarship and university applications.

It's time to challenge your opposing schools and get the GEES going!

WHEN AND WHERE

The first round takes place between 8am and 8pm on Thursday, the 8th of October. The second round will be at 5pm on the 14th of October where we will reveal the top performers for 2020.

The first round of the quiz will be available in a choice of English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa and isiZulu.  Each learner will select (online) in which language they wish to take the quiz.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

You need to make sure you have a stable internet connection. The quiz takes about 30 minutes to complete, so be sure to set aside 30 minutes that will be uninterrupted on the day. The quiz has been designed to keep data costs low.

Keep an eye out on your email and SMS for more information, links to participate and your results, accompanied by the personalised certificate.
